This is more than a giveaway—it’s a celebration of possibility\, mobility\, and our commitment to ensuring every child has access to the tools they need to thrive. Whether your child is learning to ride for the first time or needs reliable transportation to school and activities\, this program removes barriers and creates opportunities. \nWhat to Expect: \n\nBike distribution with age-appropriate sizing\nSafety helmets for every child. Parents can also bring helmets\nBike safety tips and guidance\nCommunity celebration and connection\nStaff support\n\nWe’re grateful to our partners who share our commitment to youth empowerment and community well-being. This program is made Possible By \n\nSponsor: UW South Madison Partnership\nIn Collaboration With: Bikes for Kids Wisconsin\n\nLast Year’s Success \nIn April 2025\, we distributed over 140 bikes and helmets at 67 Nob Hill Rd. The event brought together families\, volunteers\, and partners for a day of joy\, learning\, and community building. Children left with more than bike. The kids left with smiles\, confidence\, and new possibilities. This year\, we’re continuing that tradition.

SUMMARY:Baobab Senior Circle: Voices from the Southern Fields
DESCRIPTION:Some stories are too important to let fade. During Friday’s Baobab Senior Circle gathering\, community member Diana will share her mother’s first-hand account of their family’s life in the cotton fields of the American South. Through her words\, we honor the courage\, labor\, and love that carried generations forward. \nThis session is part of ACCD’s Older Adults Program\, which works to reduce isolation and bridge the information gap among elders in our community. We gather not just to listen\, but to remember together. Our elders’ stories are living history\, and every voice deserves to be heard. \nThis event is free and open to older adults who are 55 and above. Light refreshments will be provided. \nFor more information\, please contact sekati@africacentermadison.org or call (608) 294-0066

SUMMARY:Diasporic Investment in Homeland Politics
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the March edition of Africa Talks. We will be talking about the diaspora and conflict resolution in Cameroon\, Central Africa and what motivates individuals in the diaspora to intervene in the politics of their homeland. \nWhile much of the literature on group mobilization in social science\, particularly analyses of African states\, highlights ethnic cleavages as the primary sources of grievance and conflict\, the role of migrants and individuals within diaspora communities in sustaining and shaping mobilization in their countries of origin gets far less attention. Leveraging the varying degrees of diasporans’ social and political integration in their host countries\, the speaker explores how critical moments and evolving political dynamics\, particularly mass protests\, trigger deviations from baseline patterns of homeland investment. \nJoin the conversation on conflict\, gender\, and economic resilience in West Africa and in the diaspora. \n\n5pm: Doors open for food and networking\n5:30pm: Presentations & Panel discussion\n6pm: Audience joins the conversation (Q&A)\n\nFeatured Speakers: \n\nNorah-Frida Tebid – doctoral candidate in the Department of Political Science at UW-Madison\nYvonne Tazeh – Co-Founder & Portfolio Manager\,  TT Investment Concepts and Cameroonian community leader and longtime Madison resident\n\nModerated by: Erica Ayisi – PBS Wisconsin Indigenous Affairs Reporter \nWho Should Attend: \n\nAnyone curious about African cultures and diaspora experiences and relations\nResearchers\, faculty\, and practitioners interest in conflict resolution\, bilingual governance systems in Africa\nAnyone seeking community connection\nNonprofit professionals and community organizers\nNeighbors who want to understand Madison’s growing diversity\n\nThis event is free and open to all. African food will be served. \nAbout Africa Talks Community Lectures: \nOur monthly lecture series that brings together scholars\, community leaders\, and neighbors to explore the richness of African cultures and the lived experiences of our diaspora community.
