Transitional Cultural Literacy Program

TCLP was designed under the framework of cultural grounding and social navigation. The program consisted of learning African oral traditions, games, art, and foods. The purpose was to arm the child with a foundation of African cultures, which will permit him or her to secure or affirm his or her identity.

The children who participated in the program increased their knowledge and self-confidence and also got the opportunity to engage more with other students and diverse cultures.
Students were offered free hot lunches with fruits and water, which added to their excitement about the program.

TCLP is a unique elementary afterschool program that meets the needs of African youth.

Program currently suspended. It will resume when sufficient funding is available

Youth Trip to America’s Black Holocaust Museum (ABHM), Milwaukee

Under our Community Reflection Project in August 2022, we brought together African immigrant children ages 7-12 to participate in a trip to America’s Black Holocaust Museum (ABHM) in Milwaukee. It was an effort to help the children of African immigrants to acknowledge how African American culture is inherently linked to African heritage.
To climax the experience, the children visited the Milwaukee County Zoo and they had a wonderful ride on the skyline.

Funded by the United Way of Dane County's 2022 Micro Investment Grant

The CRP project was an initiative to provide cultural and historical education to children in the African immigrant community of Dane County.

There will be more youth programs in the future.
