2024 - Madison Community Health Fair
On Saturday, June 22, 2024, the African Center for Community Development had the pleasure of hosting the Community Health Fair to empower community members to take charge of their health and connect them with public health resources in the Madison area.
We are incredibly grateful for the strength and commitment of all those involved in the Community Health Fair. This event would not have been possible without the collaboration of participants and organizations alike.
Thank you to the UW Swallowing and Salivary Bioscience Lab, the UW-Madison School of Nursing, and the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Dane County (ADRC) for providing free health screenings for our community members and putting power back into the hands of patients.
Thank you to Nicole Rogus-Pulia, Ph.D., for leading the discussion on the relationship between swallowing and general health. Thank you to Linda Oakley, Ph.D., for teaching participants about the eight (8) coping strategies to practice mind-body awareness and manage stress. Finally, thank you to Ms. Keena Atkinson for discussing whole nutrition on a budget and empowering participants to eat healthy despite limited resources.
Thank you to the UW South Madison Partnership (UWSMP) for providing a space for the Community Health Fair and providing a safe environment for networking. Thank you to Public Health Madison and Dane County (PHMDC) for sponsoring this event.
The Community Health Fair was a great success. Through the hard work of everyone involved, we were able to celebrate health, community, and longevity together, and we would like to extend our deepest thanks to everyone who was able to attend. Thank you for making the Community Health Fair an event to remember.
Thank you to Holisac’s Taste of Africa for the jollof rice and veggie spring rolls, Smiling Coast Cuisine for the hibiscus juice (Wonjo), and Coffee4All for the samosas. All of the lovely refreshments at the fair fueled our minds and bodies all day long. Thank you to Forage Kitchen for providing gift cards for our participants—a little luxury for our deserving community members.
Finally, thank you to our partnering organizations for sharing resources and connecting with residents to let them know that they are not alone in our community:
